Beautiful views of the river. The ambience is very cozy and relaxing. The background 90s music truly wraps you up and allows you to disconnect and appreciate the town you're in. We tried the famous Caralhinhos de São Gonçalo, and were very please with the light, fluffy, taste of the sugar-covered pastry. It cost us 2'60€ each Caralhinhos, which I would say is a fair price considering how famous it is. I would recommend this spot to anyone wanting to experience local gastronomy.

We stopped at this lovely pastry shop on our way to some vineyards in Douro valley. The lady working there recommended us 5 delicious pastries which were invented in Amarante and we had 2 delicious cups of coffee. Definitely worth a visit if you want to try the local pastries!

A very welcoming place to try the best convent sweets in Amarante! 😋 It was in this tiny but super cozy tea house (which even looks like a dollhouse) that we ate three of the most typical convent sweets from the north of our country: Lérias, rockets, and breezes from the Tâmega. Overlooking the river itself, we were warmly welcomed by a staff member who was kind enough to tell us a little about each one. You can tell that all the sweets here are made with a care and attention unlike any other pastry shop we visited in Amarante :) The highlight is the Lérias (I'm biased, as a good almond always comes in handy)! We also had to try the famous papos de anjo (angel loaves) and the São Gonçalo (São Gonçalo) - which we'll definitely save for next time 😉 Ps. I also highlight the phallic sweet, which, contrary to the traditional one and what you see in other pastry shops, is not made with a hard, dry dough, but rather with an “eclair” style dough.
